The wait is officially over. You can now head to West Edmonton Mall's go-kart track whenever you want. The mall announced the opening just a few short days ago and we couldn’t be more excited. The best part is that it’s super cheap to visit.

Months ago, West Edmonton Mall announced that they would be getting North America’s first-ever multi-level go-kart track.

This facility is completely original and based on the renderings that were released. Basically it's the ultimate Mario Kart fantasy come true.

The mall kept things pretty quiet and didn't tell anyone when it was going to officially open.

But all the waiting has paid off because, on Saturday, September 19, the go-kart track of your dreams opened.

DRIVE plays on the theme of New York so when you get there, expect to see streetscapes, paintings of buildings, and one of the wildest tracks ever.

General admission tickets will set you back .

If you're big on the environment and an adrenaline rush, Lindsey Granger and the crew at Octane Raceway have a new, heart-pumping pastime for you. You might think you know go-karting, but you've never seen it like this. Get ready to hit the track this weekend once you see our top 3 reasons to hop in a supercharged go-kart going electric.

1. Zoom By the Competition

Don't confuse these go-karts for golf carts - they go fast. They accelerate faster than gas-powered rides and have an incredible amount of torque, with a good-sized body for handling.

2. Be Good for the Environment

Since these wheels are electric, they don't emit fumes or fules and don't drip grease on the tracks. You won't leave smelling like a member of a racecar pit crew; and you can have fun knowing you're doing the environment a favor.

3. All The Thrills, None of the Spills

Think all this high-speed fun seems dangerous? Don't worry - since electric karts are heavier than gas ones, the battery pods keep you better balanced on the track, keeping you from going so fast, your kart flips over. Plus, you get to see what it's like to be a racecar driver with harnesses, helmets, and pedals that are used in real racecars!

Construction is underway at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games on Universal Boulevard, but there's still more tidbits of news the attraction is sharing with fans.

The attraction, which is expected to open next July, gave the media a preview of what's planned for its first Florida location during the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions (IAAPA) Expo that's in town through Nov 18. Executives with Andretti previously told Orlando Business Journal the attraction will include a uniquely designed kart track that is three separate pieces and can be joined into one mega track, as well as multiple arcade games, a laser tag, a ropes course and more.

And the IAAPA presentation shared some more details on some of the other attractions in play at Andretti Indoor Karting. For example, a 7-D dark ride is planned for the facility in partnership with Canada-based Triotech, which is a major player in interactive dark rides.

Triotech is the company that designed Legoland California's Ninjago The Ride, which is currently under construction at Legoland Florida in Winter Haven. That ride incorporates a technology where guests wave their hands over an invisible beam and cast spells that interact with a movie and score points.

According to Andretti's presentation, via Twitter pictures from Orlando Weekly, Andretti's dark ride seems to be of a similar make as it's described as a ride where "riders compete against each other for the highest score using their laser blasters to battle on-screen enemies."

In addition, the attraction revealed that its ropes course activity will have a curved zipline, which it claims in the first of its kind.

Andretti Indoor Karting & Games is expected to draw more than 500,000 people each year and will create more than 200 temporary construction jobs and another 300-plus permanent operations jobs. It is the first major attraction to begin development on Universal Boulevard that will grow as more companies try to break into the I-Drive-area market.

Fasten your seatbelts! Andretti Indoor Karting & Games is gearing up to open in Marietta this week.

The business, named for the Andretti racing family, offers state of the art gaming, Sodi RTX electric karts, Andretti-designed multi-level tracks, boutique bowling, laser tag, a 7D theater, driving simulators and more. The new Marietta location features several bars and a restaurant, too.

Here are some more photos from Andretti Indoor Karting & Games ribbon cutting & VIP Party.
"To bring in my family, you know, my son, my grandson, my nephew and his son, we're all in on this project and you can see this represents the growth from what we started in Roswell," Mario Andretti told WSBTV.com's Nelson Hicks at the ribbon cutting and VIP party this week.

Andretti's opened in Roswell in 2001. There's also a location in Florida.

“After 14 years of success at our Roswell location, it was an easy decision to open a second location in the Atlanta area. Cobb County’s family community offered an ideal environment for our expansion,” said Dominic Minniti, managing member.

The new facility offers 100,000-square feet of entertainment space, complete with an arcade of more than 110 video games for the entire family, the XD Dark Ride 7D interactive movie theater, one of only two in the state; both owned by Andretti, and the CXC driving simulator, the only one of its kind in commercial use in the country with international iRacing capabilities.

The simulator even challenges someone who has won both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500.

"So many things are so challenging, you know, especially those simulators," Andretti said. "I can see those young kids going. I get confused in (the simulator). (I'm) gonna have to devote more time to be decent at it, but that's a challenge."

Additionally, Andretti offers 10,000 square feet of event space for corporate meetings, teambuilding events, social gatherings, birthday parties and more.

“Since opening the first Andretti entertainment facility in 1999, our primary focus has always been to offer our valued guests the latest state of the art attractions, the highest level of customer service and a clean and safe environment,” said John Andretti, Mario's nephew, who has raced in NASCAR and the IndyCar series. “The Andretti family looks forward to bringing our brand of entertainment to Marietta!”

The new Andretti's opens its doors on Oct. 17. It's on Roswell Road, just off I-75.

Can the brand new MINI Cooper S ‘out go-kart’ a go-kart on-track? crankandpiston.com headed to the Dubai Kartdrome to find out

When the new MINI was announced, we knew it was only a matter of time before the brand drew attention towards the updated 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine, retro-look cabin, and a whole new brand of MINI ‘hallmark’ exterior design. And, of course, that typical ‘go-kart feeling’.

But just how strong a claim is this? Just how close can the MINI’s drivability be to that of a real life go-kart? With the help of the Dubai Kartdrome, we thought we’d find out firsthand by pitting a Sodi go-kart against the brand new MINI Cooper S in a one-lap shootout on-track.

Who will come out on top? Find out in our full length feature, coming soon to crankandpiston.com

Karting at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is set to blast through the rev limiter for both speed and fun, with the Victorian track investing more than 230,000.00 dollars in a new fleet of French made SODI RT8 karts. The karts arrived from Europe this week and will go through an assembly process in readiness for action by the September school holidays.

Circuit Managing Director, Fergus Cameron, has searched worldwide to source the best karts and has ordered 27 of the SODI RT8 karts from the highly regarded SODI Racing Company in Nantes in France.

“These are no ordinary karts. Each has a price tag in excess of 8,000.00 dollars SODI are the Ferrari of the karting world, and we went with them to ensure our fans enjoyed the best karting experience possible,” said Fergus Cameron.

“We need to replace our karts every three to four years and this is a significant, but necessary, investment to ensure top quality karts.”

“In the karting world, the name SODI is legendary and their karts are designed and manufactured in Europe, with technical development honed on the racetracks of the world and through intensive testing. These SODI karts will make karting at the Island even more thrilling and we are sure that fans across Australia will love the experience.”

Fans will be able to race the karts on the Island’s 760m karting track, which is a scale replica of the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit raced by the world’s greatest MotoGP, World Superbike riders and the boys of the V8 Supercar brigade. Open seven days a week, the kart track is adjoined to the Visitor Centre, situated above Southern Loop and overlooking Bass Straight.

The new karts arrived this week and over the next month, final assembly will be completed including the application of Phillip Island livery. The karts are fired by a 9hp GX270 Honda engine, and with the addition of many safety features, top speeds are far more attainable.

All round rubber protection surrounds each kart, preventing wheel to wheel contact between the race machines. In the event of a collision, the rubber-surround compresses to absorb any impact and quickly resumes its race-ready shape.

The new karts come fitted with a structurally engineered roll bar and seat belt. There’s also an Anti-Gas Brake System, that when applied, overrides the accelerator pedal for greater safety and reduces clutch damage.

With state of the art seats and pedals fitted, the karts can be adjusted to make it easier to custom fit drivers. They allow for a minimum driver height of 140 cm.

“This is great news for young drivers,” said Cameron. “Our previous karts had a minimum height of 153 cm, but with the new karts allowing for children as short as 140cm, most 12 year olds will be able to compete.”

Karting at Phillip Island is super fun for adrenalin junkies through to novices. Participants can race the clock or one another and push out a series of hot laps in their quest to set the day’s fastest lap. Lap time print outs are provided for each racer. Times can even be posted to a driver’s own Facebook site, allowing any top gun to enjoy maximum bragging rights. All lap times are also posted to the website www.phillipislandgokarts.com.au for all to see.

Group racing is encouraged, and tandem karts are available for beginners, particularly popular for parents and children starting out.

France’s “Sodi Racing” range is designed for the most demanding drivers, as well as recreational drivers, seeking a high performance, reliable racing kart. The company’s Sodi Racing Team competes internationally in karting championships and has accumulated many victories including World Champion, European Champion, winner of the World Cup and many titles in national championships on all continents.

No bookings are required for each on track session. All fans are given a thorough briefing in safety and race-craft before putting their driving skill to the test. For all details www.phillipislandgokarts.com.au

Confirmed with Dallas Karting Complex/Sodi Racing USA for SKUSA SuperNationals XVII

Texas-based Sodi Kart racing team stacked with talent roster for November 20-24 event in Las Vegas

The 2013 season is closing out with a busy few weeks for the Dallas Karting Complex/Sodi Racing USA operation. On November 10-16, the NOLA Motorsports Park will host over 300 drivers from 60 countries for the 2013 Rotax Grand Finals – with the Sodi Kart serving as the official chassis partner for the Senior Max category. DKC/Sodi Racing USA will also be supporting two drivers as part of Team USA. The following week, Texas-based race team will make way for Las Vegas, to compete in the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals XVII. Among them is professional motorsports driver Sebastien Bourdais.

The famous French driver is scheduled to compete in the new DD2 Masters category with Dallas Karting Complex/Sodi Racing USA team. The 34-year old was born into motorsports, and began racing karts at the age of 10. He competed in various championships over the six years in the sport before moving into the junior formula car ranks in 1995. Since, he’s earned four ChampCar championships and recorded three runner-up finishes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The past two seasons, the former Formula One driver competed in the IndyCar Series for Dragon Racing and recently signed a deal with KVSH Racing for 2014 and 2015. Bourdais has sampled the Sodi brand before, as the French manufacture as worked with French driver who resides in St. Petersburg, Florida. This week, Bourdais tested the Sodi Sigma DD2 combination, shaking off the karting rust and preparing to compete in his first a high-profile karting event in the United States.

Each year, Anthony Abbasse is among the top contenders in the KZ2 around the world and each November in Las Vegas. The 2011 SuperNationals winner is back, gunning for his second ,000 payday. Along with leading the factory race team, Abbasse has been helping to spread the Sodi Kart brand across the world, including the United States. When not behind the wheel, Anthony can be found in the paddock helping drivers and mechanics with the nuances of the Sodi Kart chassis. This year at the SuperNationals, Abbasse will contest two categories, including the KZ2 and adding the new DD2 division aboard the Sigma chassis that has shown strong at the big events in North America.

United States Rotax Grand Nationals runner-up Mike Jones will be doing back-to-back weekends, as the DKC co-owner is set to compete in the two biggest events of the year. Jones along with DKC/Sodi driver Sean Owens will compete at the 2013 Rotax Grand Finals. It is the second straight year Jones will take part on Team USA in the DD2 Masters division, while Owens is making his first visit to the ‘Olympics of Karting’ in DD2. Following his attempt at a podium finish in a week in New Orleans, Jones will fly over to Las Vegas to compete at the SuperNationals for a chance at the first ticket toward the 2014 Rotax Grand Finals with a victory in DD2 Masters.

In total, Dallas Karting Complex/Sodi Racing USA will field a total of six karts in the combined DD2/DD2 Masters group. Recently-crowned Texas ProKart Challenge champion Alex Tartaglia and Chris Koster will also be in Las Vegas. Tartaglia won the Rotax Senior and DD2 championships this summer, and is set at racing against a international field in DD2 at the SuperNationals. Fellow Texan Koster is set to make his DD2 Masters debut with Dallas Karting Complex/Sodi Racing USA. Joining him will be Dutch driver Philip Stoelman, who competed at the Texas ProKart Challenge finale at NOLA with the team, and is ready for the challenge at the SuperNationals.

Championship is on the mind of new Dallas Karting Complex/Sodi Racing USA driver Louie Pagano. The Californian who signed with the team in August, enters the SuperNationals as the championship leader in the TaG Senior division. Currently ranked #1 in the eKartingNews.com Driver Rankings, Pagano has finished on the podium previously at the SuperNats but has yet to claim the big victory. He and the entire team have been working deligently over the past few weeks, preparing to claim the ,000 check should he reach the checkered flag first. Joining him in the competitive TaG Senior category is Evan Mehan. The Florida driver joined DKC at the US Rotax Grand Nationals, jumping right in a Sodi Kart for the first time. Working with Pagano throughout the week, Mehan was among the quickest drivers at the event, but contact in the final would dash any hopes of a podium finish. The two are excited about their chances and showing the Sodi brand well in Las Vegas.

Leading the Junior roster for Dallas Karting Complex/Sodi Racing USA is Nathan Adds. The current Texas ProKart Challenge S5 Junior Stock Moto champion is gunning for his first podium finish at the SuperNats. Beginning the year with sixth place performance at the SpringNationals in April, Adds has made big strides on improving his race craft and familiarity with the Sodi chassis that should put him in contention in Las Vegas. Carrying the Sodi banner in the TaG Cadet division is the young Hayden Lefever. Throughout the 2013 season, Lefever continued to improve on and off the track, recording his best finishes of the season in the final three events of the Texas ProKart Challenge. This will be the first SuperNationals trip for Lefever, as he looks to learn from the entire DKC/Sodi team in Las Vegas.
